The survey shows that previously, around 35 percent of marketers had a documented strategy for their content marketing outreach. Unfortunately, that number has dropped to 32 percent. What’s puzzling is that while most marketers know they need to document their strategies, they’re not doing it.

Here are some takeaways from the survey:

  • 79 percent of the most effective content marketing strategies had defined their idea of success.
  • Only 23 percent of failed campaigns had defined their idea of success.
  • 48 percent of the most effective marketers developed a mission statement, compared to 14 percent of the least effective that had done the same.
  • 70 percent of marketers who meet daily or weekly about their strategy feel they are successful.
  • 70 percent of marketers say their content marketing is ineffective.

As a marketer, not only do you need to define what success is, you also need to focus on how your content is put in front of your clients and potential clients. More proactive outreach efforts can help solve the problem of failed content marketing strategies. For instance, are you taking enough time to really get to know your leads?
